Coal & Logistics

Mercator has been in business of Coal transportation & Logistics since 1995 & served many Thermal Power Stations in India with end to end solutions to the Customers. However, Mercator entered into the Coal mining & trading business in 2008.




Mercator acquired coal mining licenses in Indonesia and Mozambique with substantial coal resources, as a measure of backward integration. Unlike acquiring already existing producing mines, we have looked at these green field projects.

Oorja Holdings Pte. Ltd  (100% owned step-down subsidiary of ML) owns coal mines in Indonesia and Mozambique. The company, through subsidiaries has mining licenses for block in Batuah region of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Operation at Batuah mine commenced in August 2012.


In Mozambique, company have secured mining license for one coal block. No operations are currently on in the block.




As part of the mine & related development logistics infrastructure was established including the following: -

  • ·       20+ km of All-weather haul road

  • ·       Stockpile with stacker & re-claimer

  • ·       Fixed & mobile crushing units with facility to augment variable capacity

  • ·       Dedicated waterfront for barge loading

  • ·       Jetty with conveyor loading facility


This infrastructure is capable of handling 5 MMT of coal annually. This Logistics Infrastructure is being utilized by nearby miners under leasing arrangements. This infrastructure is a sole provider of ready infrastructure with ample spare capacity and possibility of augmentation for end-to-end evacuation of coal for nearby operational mines.
